Dream of the Red ChamberI
In 2008, I listened to Chiang Hsun’s audiobook of Dream of the Red Chamber and developed an interest in this Chinese classic literature. A burst of Imagination came into my mind. I also discovered the artworks of Gai Qi, a painter in Qing Dynasty. I really enjoy his works, which enlighten me on the composition. There is scarcely a center but a lot of intended blanks and airiness in his composition. His composition is sporadic, which is avant-garde even in nowaday standard. I made some precise copies of his paintings and integrate them into my own works, and they became this series of works. The original copies are almost sold out. Fortunately, I keep one in my place. I wish that my artworks cheer my clients up.
Revisiting Dream of the Red Chamber, I still enjoy it very much. I really appreciate nievesbooks and bananafishbooks for publishing this zine. Now I am organizing myself and reading this classic again.
